ABOUT THE ROLE / ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?
As a multi-discipline systems-focused technical lead, you will play a crucial role in supporting the National Rolling Stock Engineering Manager at John Holland Rail & Transport. Your primary responsibility will be to provide efficient engineering and technical leadership within the National Rolling Stock team. This includes contributing to CAPEX and modification specification, design, procurement, regulatory compliance, reliability, plant and rolling-stock registration and reporting, maintenance management, problem-solving, and application of John Holland procedures and Rolling Stock Operator accreditation. Your expertise in various disciplines will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of plant and rolling stock, as well as driving continuous improvement initiatives. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE / WHAT YOU WILL DO;
- Provide technical leadership & mentoring to the broader Rolling Stock & Plant Operations team promoting increased capability for self-performance of advanced or complex diagnostics, T&E, fault rectifications and maintenance.
- Ensure specialised Rail Plant and Equipment complies with technical specifications, applicable legislation, standards, engineering approvals, registration requirements and JHG SQE Risk Management procedures
- Lead technical investigations and defect analysis & reporting. Setting standards for investigation, analysis & reporting of difficult & complex plant faults across the spectrum of plant and often associated with aging equipment.
- Develop specifications and undertake minor design; monitor and recommend changes to design details to increase productivity and/or safety.
- Assess compliance of rolling stock with technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals, and relevant standards and JHG risk management process.
- Ensure Plant design specifications, modifications and configuration changes are managed and are subject to Modification Management Change (MMC), Notification of Change (NoC to ONRSR – Regulator) & validation and approval of change.
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, risk assessment contributing to the decision process regarding the suitability of rolling-stock and other on-track plant and equipment.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS KEY ROLE, YOU MUST HAVE / WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace Electrical, Mechatronics).
- Demonstrated post-graduate engineering experience, with strong exposure to working in a site-based role Established approach to engineering and risk
- Appreciation of rail safety and technical requirements, governance, and risks impacting the performance of rolling stock in different rail systems
- Project-wide level planning, development, and review of complex projects Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment, and quality risk management
- Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
- People and performance management, including subcontractor performance
- Effective time management skills
- Demonstrated extensive technical knowledge of plant and equipment systems
- Strong computer literacy, including familiarity with MS Office software, Maximo CMMS, and CAD
