ABOUT THE JOB:

Kent is looking for a Senior Safety Engineer who will be responsible for coordinating the production of engineering deliverables and providing progress reporting for a project in accordance with the project plan. Typically, works as a Process Safety engineer reporting to the lead engineer on a feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC project. Undertakes specified tasks / areas of work dependent on size and complexity of project, as defined by the lead engineer or project / project engineering manager. Supervising and checking the work of other engineers as delegated by the lead engineer / group manager. Responsible for communicating technical / project issues potentially impacting the project to the lead engineer. We operate a hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days home working, for our team to develop an effective team dynamic within Engineering.

YOUR KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically, holds a Master’s Degree in chemical engineering or post-graduate Process Safety qualification.
  • Chartered status preferred.
  • Experience of working for engineering / client organisations in the oil and gas industry.
  • Exposure to consultancy, FEED / detailed design and EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality procedures and best practice.
  • Experience of managing Risk Analysis (e.g. QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, RAM, Flare/Vent Studies)
  • Hand on Experience of running process safety software such as PHAST, Flaresim, RAM Maros etc
  • Human Factors engineering design implementation experience.
  • Experience of UK safety case and COMAH requirements
  • Experience of UK applicable HSE regulations
  • Experience in development of bow tie and identification of Safety Critical Elements
Responsibilities
  • Can be technically responsible for an area of work and supervises preparation of specific deliverables.
  • Supervising and checking the work of other engineers as delegated by the lead engineer / group manager.
  • Undertakes specific tasks / area of work as defined by the lead / principal engineer for Process Safety.
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract under the supervision of the lead / principal engineer.
  • Participates in factory acceptance tests.
  • Supports the preparation of the Process Safety TDR and executes allocated tasks within the requirements of the project execution plan and TDR.
  • Ensures compliance with Kent’s ISO accredited QMS, and project specific procedures, guides and standards.
  • In consultation with Process group manager takes responsibility for identifying own development needs and ensuring that agreed development goals are met taking due cognisance of project commitments.
  • Responsible for personal training and development in consultation with Process group manager.
  • Performs related duties as and when instructed by lead / principal engineer or group manager.
  • Prepare/ review safety studies report independently such as QRA, FERA,RAM etc.
  • Prepare and Review of loss prevention deliverables such fire protection philosophy, HAC schedule, PFP schedule layouts, fire water demand calculations etc.
    In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee’s skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently.
