This position is contingent upon contract award.
DSoft Technology is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) modernization efforts to implement a flexible, network-based voice communication enterprise system that will replace aging, increasingly expensive to maintain legacy voice switches. Our team will implement a modern and supportable Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) enabled networked Voice Communication System (VCS) at Air Traffic Control Towers, Terminal Radar Approach Control Facilities, Center Radar Approach Control Facility, and Air Route Traffic Control Centers. The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the VCS in all deployed environments. This is a full-time remote position for six months, converting to part time for the remainder of the multi-year contract. Up to 25% CONUS travel may be required.
Essential Duties

The Senior Safety Engineer will apply FAA safety protocols and frameworks to this particular effort by implementing and managing the contractor’s VCS safety program. The selected candidate will begin by developing several related written plans for FAA approval that comply with the FAA Air Traffic Organization Safety Management System Manual, the FAA System Safety Risk Management Guidance for Systems Acquisitions, and other applicable FAA publications:

  • Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) Program Plan
  • System Safety Program Plan (SSPP)
  • Sub-System Hazard Analysis (SSHA)
  • System Hazard Analysis (SHA)
  • Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
  • System Safety Assessment (SSA) Report
  • Safety Requirements Verification Table (SRVT)

Specific responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Identifying system safety hazards, preparing risk assessments, identifying safety dependencies, and recommending cost-effective risk mitigation strategies
  • Ensuring software safety
  • Preparation for and participation in design reviews
  • Reporting on the status of the SSPP at Program Management Reviews and Quarterly Program Reviews
  • Integrating safety engineering activities with system engineering and other specialty engineering disciplines including software, integrated logistics, performance/reliability/maintainability/availability, security, and human factors.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will mentor and supervise other safety engineers on the team.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in FAA safety domain protocols, procedures, and regulations and in writing FAA safety documentation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work remotely as part of an engineering team

Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Engineering or Science (ME/MS) degree with 15+ years relevant experience or Bachelors of Science (BS) degree with 20+ years relevant experience
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must successfully pass a US Government background verification check

Working Environment
Remote, with travel to contractor sites and FAA facilities
