Description

VetsEZ is seeking a remote Senior SAN Engineer to support enterprise storage systems for a high-impact federal healthcare modernization program with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will be responsible for the design, implementation, and sustainment of storage environments that support large-scale data migration, backup, and syndication efforts across hybrid on-premise and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with NetApp, HP 3PAR, Pure Storage, and SAN performance optimization.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise-class SAN environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency with NetApp OnTap, HP 3PAR, HP Primera, Pure Storage, and Lefthand storage platforms.
  • Strong experience with SAN backup operations, particularly using Commvault, Snapshots, and Snapclones.
  • Deep knowledge of fiber channel networking, switch configuration (Brocade), and SAN performance tuning.
  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex storage connectivity, performance, and availability issues.
  • Familiarity with storage monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, NetApp Unified Manager, HPE SSMC, and Infosight.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience supporting storage infrastructure for healthcare data platforms or large-scale data integration efforts.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud backup strategies, including Microsoft Azure GovCloud archival storage.
  • Experience documenting storage configuration for ATO support or compliance audits.
  • Certification in NetApp, HPE, or Pure Storage technologies is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and administer enterprise SAN environments including NetApp AFF, HP 3PAR, HP Primera, Pure Storage, and HP Lefthand arrays.
  • Perform routine and advanced tasks such as zoning, LUN provisioning, multipath I/O configuration, and high-availability storage clustering.
  • Execute Snapshots, Snapclones, and replication activities across production, staging, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Monitor and optimize SAN performance, capacity utilization, and fault tolerance across over 9 PB of storage infrastructure.
  • Administer storage management platforms and tools including NetApp OnTap, OnCommand, Unified Manager, HPE Infosight, 3PAR CLI, SPOCC, and SSMC.
  • Coordinate with backup and infrastructure teams to ensure effective integration of SAN with Commvault, Azure archival backups, and SQL Server backup workflows.
  • Produce and maintain documentation such as system topology diagrams, build guides, configuration baselines, and quarterly storage planning reports.
  • Support integration of new storage systems and facilitate migrations from legacy arrays into the production architecture.
  • Provide technical input for hardware refresh cycles, capacity planning, firmware upgrades, and support escalations with storage vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with VA security and operational standards for backup and storage operations.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
