ABOUT THE POSITION

Girton Grammar School is seeking an experienced English Teacher to develop and deliver high-quality lessons, to maintain and build on our academic success.

THIS IS A FULL-TIME AND ONGOING TEACHING POSITION STARTING IN JANUARY 2026. PART-TIME APPLICATIONS WILL ALSO BE CONSIDERED.

Your primary responsibility will be teaching English VCE and 7-10, helping students to develop a passion for the subject, whilst developing their skills in both reading and writing. You will engage students in critical thinking, discussion, and analysis, fostering a deep understanding of the subject and its real-world applications
As the English teacher you will deeply understand current research-based pedagogies and have a proven ability to apply them to the English curriculum. You will design a rigorous and robust curriculum that embeds cognitive load theory, explicit instruction, and the Science of Learning. As the English teacher, you will have a proven ability to write and deliver an outstanding English curriculum.
We are looking for an educator who can work in a supportive, collaborative environment to write and deliver explicit lessons that will give students access to their preferred futures.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Appropriate qualification and current registration as a teacher,
  • A passion for teaching English in years 7-12, with a proven ability to write and deliver an outstanding English curriculum,
  • Understand current research-based pedagogies and have a proven ability to apply them to an English curriculum,
  • Demonstrated effective delivery of teaching and learning programs,
  • A commitment to professional development,
  • Excellent personal communication, administrative and organisational skills,
  • Commitment to student wellbeing and child safety, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children, including children with diverse needs and backgrounds,
  • Strong skills in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), especially as they relate to teaching and learning,
  • Commitment to co-curricular activities.
