We collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and research integrity. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes. About the Role We are looking for an experienced editor with expertise in any area of materials science to join the editorial team of Cell Reports Physical Science as a Senior Scientific Editor. Cell Reports Physical Science is an open access journal from Cell Press publishing cutting-edge research across the physical sciences, including chemistry, physics, materials science, energy science, engineering, and related interdisciplinary work. See our aims and scope here. As a Senior Scientific Editor you will assess manuscript submissions, manage the peer-review process, and ensure articles are rigorous, relevant, and impactful. You will play a leading role in developing the journal within China, including commissioning, author engagement, marketing, and more! You will also engage with researchers to expand the journal’s network of authors and readers, travel to international conferences, and visit research institutes. You will also work closely with colleagues across Operations, Production, Marketing, and other editorial teams in physical sciences and sustainability, embracing a One Cell Press ethos. This is a full-time in-house editorial position locating in or around one of our China offices. Responsibilities: Recruiting research articles and commissioning high-quality reviews and opinion pieces; Establishing relationships with researchers and representing the journal and Cell Press at scientific meetings and visits to research institutions; Managing the peer review process from submission to final decision, with speed, rigour, and industry-leading author service; Supporting the development and implementation of journal strategy within all areas of materials science; Supporting other Cell Press titles with submission transfers, content recruitment, and promotion; Contributing to social media posts on key platforms including WeChat. Requirements A Ph.D. in any area of materials science. Post-doctoral experience is beneficial but not required. Knowledge of current state-of-the-art and current research leaders in different fields of materials science; Passion for fundamental and applied research and strong interest in communicating science; Strong understanding of academic publishing options in the field, including key competitor titles. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to work independently and collaboratively; Availability to travel within China; Fluent written and spoken English & Mandarin At least four years' prior editorial experience. Outstanding applicants with less or no prior editorial experience may be considered as Associate Scientific Editor.
