Job Description Summary:
We are looking for a Scientific Equipment Engineer to join the team located at one of our client sites. The position will support scale up development teams through a phase of rapid expansion and growth due to business activities.
This position will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the Environmental Science & Technology team (function integrated in Bioprocess Development) that has been providing critical support to Purification Process Science large scale facilities.
The role will require providing hands-on support for equipment maintenance, including managing system upgrades and inventories of critical replacement parts in addition to coordinating with internal/external engineers. The impact and benefit of this service is reduced downtime and enhanced facility operation.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Degree level Engineering Qualification
  • Experience within the Laboratory Instrument Support sector.
  • Supports large scale bioreactor systems, centrifuge/AKTA process troubleshooting, and other relevant equipment associated with the facility, URS for buffer concentration/TFF systems.
  • Specific experience and technical knowledge of data architecture including OSI Pi to support improvements and maintenance of existing data architecture.
  • Understands engineering schematics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical Engineering Qualification
  • PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
Responsibilities
  • Ensure prompt, flexible, customer focused equipment support whilst maintaining compliance with statutory, regulatory, and engineering standards.
  • Plan & carry out engineering maintenance and commissioning work associated with scientific equipment and systems in a safe, cost-effective manner to ensure minimum business disruption. To include but not limited to; Diagnose faults on complex equipment and systems utilizing the multi-disciplinary support internal and external to the team to produce a satisfactory solution. Managing software updates and system upgrades. Automated equipment integration. Coordinates maintenance activities with facilities teams. Participates in shutdown and return to service activities. Facility design, space utilization and technical expertise relating to critical utilities (power/gas).
  • Support for PPS Pilot facility incorporating large scale bioreactor systems, primary recovery and fine separation.
  • Point of contact for external engineers, overseeing and coordination of PM’s.
  • Support contract management in the set-up, renewal and budget of service contracts.
  • Monitor the performance of the systems, develops and maintains maintenance programs for new and existing equipment, improving system performance and reliability whilst influencing effective changes.
  • Manage the availability of essential spares to support the range of equipment and systems used within the department in a cost-effective manner. Use technical knowledge to identify, source and maintain critical components and services.
  • Produces and manages documentation and electronic paperwork with full traceability, including SOP, Change Control, user requirements, specifications, batch records, protocols, and reports.
  • Co-operate and assist in all aspects of health and safety procedures, performs quality/safety inspections, with strict adherence to relevant safety procedures.
  • Assist in producing full and detailed task specific Risk Assessment/Method Statement is completed for regular activities and prior to any work commencing.
  • Report any accidents or near misses that they experience, or witness, to their Line Management
