Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Senior Scientific Programme Manager you will play a pivotal role in managing world-leading research programmes, led by Professor Paul Elliott. Current programmes include several large population cohort studies and biobanks in the department, including the Airwave Health Monitoring Study, the Cohort Study of MObile phone uSe and health (COSMOS) and COVID-19 projects such as the Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT) Programme of studies.
Reporting directly to Prof Elliott, you will be responsible for (often acting directly on his behalf) a broad range of management activities for the above programmes. Ranging from liaising with external Government departments and senior researchers to providing supervision and organisational leadership.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

You will manage and plan high quality programmes of research in population studies, undertake programme and project management involving multi-disciplinary teams. All the projects involve liaison with national and international external partners, and you will facilitate development of excellent working relationships with relevant contacts to ensure timely progress, achievement of project milestones/deliverables and reporting of project outputs.
You will provide support for Professor Elliott to enable him to forward plan resources and budgets for his current research programmes, working closely with the Department Manager and members of his administrative team. This will include assisting with preparation of costings for grant applications and monitoring of project expenditure.
Your responsibilities will also include line management of a number of senior professional support staff involved in providing the Secure Computing Environment, Information Governance, Systems Operations and Database Management – enabling the development and strategic direction of these systems to ensure that they continue to meet researcher and data provider demands.
In addition, you will be expected to represent Prof Elliott in scientific and non-scientific meetings and fora and support the attraction of external funding.
