EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or related discipline with zero or more years of chromatography experience related to drug discovery; or,
  • MS in analytical chemistry or related discipline and a minimum of five years of chromatography experience related to drug discovery; or,
  • BS in analytical chemistry or related discipline and a minimum of seven years of chromatography experience related to drug discovery; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience (desired):

  • Experience using LCMS, UPLC and SFC in drug discovery setting
  • Experience with purification and characterization of small molecule compounds
  • Experience with automation for liquid handling processes

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of automatic liquid handler/Robotics and related data processing software
  • Strong knowledge of small molecule separation by modern chromatographic techniques such as Reverse Phase LC/UPLC, LCMS and SFC.
  • Strong knowledge of LC, LCMS and SFC instrumentation
  • Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and works well within a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day small molecule separation, separation and characterization activities using industry-leading chromatography tools for research and development projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing external vendors and service providers for laboratory instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and technical/process development to optimize analytical workflow efficiency and throughput.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform high throughput compound library purification using LCMS detection and automation software.
  • Perform separation, purification, analysis and scale up purification of small molecule compounds from medicinal chemistry synthesis including chiral separation.
  • Use chromatographic methods including HPLC/UPLC, LCMS and SFC to separate compounds with complex matrices (problem solving).
  • Ability to use automated liquid handler robots to perform sample preparation pre and post purification.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare analysis report under supervision.
  • Participate in group, project team and departmental research meetings.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in accordance with company policies and practices.
  • Comply with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelines.
