Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Scientist in Protein Science (Purification and Characterization) for an a patient-centered drug developer located in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA). The Senior Scientist will be responsible for purifying and characterizing recombinant proteins to support early-stage drug discovery by providing high-quality reagents for downstream research applications. This is an eight month contract position based in the Boston/Cambridge area of Massachusetts.

Responsibilities of the Senior Scientist:

  • Purify recombinant proteins (cytosolic, secreted, membrane-bound) using AKTA systems.
  • Perform biophysical and quality control analyses (e.g., mass spectrometry, HPLC).
  • Develop and optimize protein purification strategies for diverse targets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support early-stage drug discovery.
  • Contribute to project meetings with experimental insights and reagent planning.
  • Support downstream applications like structural biology, screening, and assay development.

Qualifications for the Senior Scientist:

  • PhD with 2–4 years or BS/MS with 6–12 years of relevant experience.

Strong hands-on experience with AKTA purification systems and protein purification protocols.
Proficiency in mass spectrometry and other biophysical techniques.
Familiarity with drug discovery workflows and reagent requirements.
Ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and work in a collaborative R&D environment.
Preferred: Experience with Waters BioAccord MS and techniques like thermal shift assays or light scattering.
