Consultant assignment via WeQuel | Client: AstraZeneca (Gothenburg) On behalf of one of our clients, AstraZeneca, WeQuel is now looking for a Senior Scientist within Process Analytical Technology (PAT) for a consultant assignment in Gothenburg. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation, life-changing medicines while working at the intersection of science, technology, and innovation. About the assignment You will join AstraZeneca’s Operations organization within Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D), Global Product Development (GPD). The team focuses on Oral Controlled Release and Immediate Release drug products and works across the full value chain – from early development to commercial manufacturing. In this role, you will strengthen the Product and Process Control group by driving the development and implementation of enhanced control strategies using state-of-the-art PAT technologies for late-phase pharmaceutical products. Your responsibilities As a Senior Scientist in PAT, you will: Design, develop and deliver enhanced control methods using PAT, chemometrics and advanced process monitoring Perform hands-on laboratory work as a core part of the role Develop, validate and technically transfer PAT methods and tools Apply multivariate data analysis (MVDA) to support robust product and process control strategies Collaborate in cross-functional project teams and contribute to regulatory documentation Support digital initiatives within continuous manufacturing, including data science, predictive modelling, simulation and AI-driven approaches Promote a future-oriented, innovative mindset within process control and analytics Required background BSc, MSc or equivalent in chemistry, pharmacy, engineering or similar Experience with PAT within pharmaceutical or chemical industry, or postgraduate academic experience with strong industrial PAT focus Solid understanding of PAT techniques such as NIR, Raman and microwave spectroscopy Experience in PAT method development and implementation Strong competence in chemometrics and MVDA (PCA, PLS) using tools such as SIMCA, Python, MATLAB or PLS Toolbox Ability to document and present work clearly and concisely Strong collaboration, communication and leadership skills Understanding of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) principles Meritorious experience GMP, GAMP, data integrity, change control and process safety Development of control strategies for commercial pharmaceutical manufacturing Basic scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, R) Experience with digital control and monitoring systems (DCS, PAT management systems, APC, multivariate monitoring platforms) Knowledge of pharmaceutical process equipment and continuous manufacturing technologies About WeQuel WeQuel is a people-first consulting company built on the belief that “we are equal.” We work closely with leading companies within Life Science, offering experienced consultants, long-term partnerships and a modern, transparent way of working.
