Description

We are seeking an experienced scientist to help us build software development tools to support the emerging field of quantum computing. The ideal candidate has expertise in quantum computing, preferably with knowledge of compiler design and programming languages. You will work closely with other scientists (physicists and computer scientists), and establish collaborations with the product, engineering and design teams to develop the enabling technology behind our products. You should have excellent communication skills, strong motivation for learning, and a passion for pushing at the boundaries of technology.
The successful candidate will join a fast-growing team that will influence the software architecture for our software development tools and will lay the foundation for future products.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD (or equivalent R&D experience at a comparable level) in Quantum Computing, Quantum Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Expertise in quantum programming; experience with Python and Matlab, preferably also C and C++
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team environment as deemed necessary
  • Highly motivated with a passion for learning and driving technical progress
  • Excellent collaboration, communication and documentation skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years or more of post-doctoral work or equivalent R&D experience
  • Working knowledge of compiler development or programming languages design
  • Experience with working on commercial software development
Responsibilities
  • Work with other scientists and engineers to design and develop programming tools that directly interact with quantum hardware
  • Create and optimize software layers that translate high-level code to machine-level instructions
  • Solve scientific and technical problems in support of Horizon’s product development
  • Mentor junior scientists on the team to enable their progress within the company and improve on technical skills
  • Maintain proper documentation of your work and present results both internally and externally
  • Write reports, research papers and technical documentation as may be required by the company
  • Work with other employees and external partners to develop and protect novel intellectual property relating to quantum hardware and software innovations
  • Keep up to date with the latest scientific and technical advances
