Description

Preco is now hiring for a Senior Service Technician for their Somerset, WI location.
It is the responsibility of the Service Technician to provide remote technical support to customer maintenance personnel and machine operators, perform electronic and mechanical
bench repair work as required, and provide quality parts to keep the systems in operating condition and maintain maximum customer satisfaction.
This position requires extensive domestic and international travel to install, service, and conduct operator and maintenance training on the entire line of Preco products. Expect between and 50-70% travel to customer sites.

With our proprietary die cutting and laser-based manufacturing capabilities, Preco has also become one of the largest contract manufacturing service (CMS) providers in North America.
Job Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Site Support
  • Travel to customer sites to install CNC and galvo-based laser systems, including full Preco product lines.
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Train customers in machine operation, safety, and routine maintenance procedures.
  • Provide operator and maintenance personnel training as part of new installations or follow-up visits.
  1. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
  • Respond to customer calls and provide phone and email based technical support.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PC hardware/software and control systems.
  • Assist customers with diagnostic support, fix-versus-buy decisions, and parts identification.
  1. System Testing & Repair
  • Perform final checkout and inspection of new systems before shipment.
  • Test, diagnose, and repair customer units or components returned to the service depot.
  • Assemble and wire system controller upgrades and other components as needed.
  1. Parts & Service Management
  • Issue Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) for component evaluations or repairs.
  • Handle part orders, maintain proper inventory, and coordinate shipment of replacement parts.
  • Schedule field service trips and manage travel itineraries independently.
  1. Knowledge & Training
  • Assist in developing troubleshooting guides and service documentation.
  • Support internal and customer-facing training classes for system maintenance and operation.
  • Stay current on industry developments by attending training sessions, seminars, and reading technical materials.
  1. Technical Competency
  • Maintain working knowledge of Preco software (e.g., AcuBeam, AcuNav, AcuVision, AcuScore, Delta Tau).
  • Understand laser processes including cutting, welding, converting, and packaging.
  • Be familiar with galvo systems and various laser manufacturers.
  1. Tool & Equipment Use
  • Hand tools and power tools
  • Oscilloscope
  • Voltmeters and high-voltage probes
  • Power meters

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school education or GED required. 2-year technical degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of industrial experience.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Computer skills i.e., Microsoft Office, CAD and SysPro a plus.
  • Willingness to travel (averaging ~50% to 70% annually).
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Strong math aptitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to safely drive a forklift.
  • Excellent eyesight and hearing.
  • G-code programming ability.
