MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree: A degree in mining engineering is required.
  • Advanced Degree: A post-graduate degree is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of proven experience in mine engineering in open pit
    operations, of which are at least three (3) years at senior supervisory level within a technical

department.

  • Specialized Mine Planning Software: Proficiency in mine design and planning software is essential;

demonstrated experience with HxGN MinePlan Products, MineMax Scheduler and Geovia Whittle is

advantageous.

  • Reporting and Presentations: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power

point)

  • Technical Expertise: Possesses a strong technical background in mining engineering, geology, surveying

and related fields, allowing for the effective design and implementation of mine plans.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Senior STP Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly mine plans that ensure a safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of ore and waste in Hudbay Copper World open-pit mining operation. This role focuses on translating long-term strategic goals into actionable operational plans, managing geological and geotechnical constraints, and collaborating closely with mine operations, processing, geology, and other technical teams to maximize production and achieve key performance indicators.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Mine Planning: Develop and implement strategic, long-term and short-term mine plans, ensuring

resource optimization and efficient production. Key accountabilities include:

  • Pit Design and Optimization

  • Drill and Blast Engineering: Plan of operation and ongoing improvements in drill and blast

engineering.

  • Productivity Analyses: Conduct productivity analyses and improvement studies.
  • Production Accounting: Oversee production accounting.
  • Stockpile Inventory Accounting: Manage stockpile inventory accounting.
  • Mine Equipment Studies: Conduct studies on mine equipment.
  • Mine Surveying: Ensure compliance with survey operating standards.
  • Technical Data: Compile and analyze technical data.
  • Mine Model: Provide leadership and ownership of the Long-Term Planning and Medium-Term Planning

Block Models including coordinating the handover from Resource Modelers and the validation of data to

be used as a basis for Mine Design and Mine Planning.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and develop a team of mine planners, engineers, and other relevant staff,

ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.

  • Coaching and Mentoring: Coach, mentor, and develop Senior Engineers to build both

technical and leadership skills.

  • Operational Efficiency: Optimizes mine operations by ensuring that plans are practical, economical, and

meet all relevant standards and regulations.

  • Budget Management: Manages the mine planning budget, ensuring that resources are allocated

effectively and efficiently.

  • Project Support: Be part of the Copper World Integrated project team.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provides regular reports to management on the status of mine plans,

schedules, and performance.

  • Business Improvement: Participate in Identifying business improvement opportunities.
  • Generate innovative solutions, which continuously improve the performance of existing

assets, products, services, or processes.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identifies opportunities for improvement in mine planning processes and

operations, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and safety.

  • Risk Assessment: Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task

execution.

  • Health, Safety and Environmental compliance: Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Hudbay’s

Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

  • Drive and develop the safety culture within the Mine Planning department,

ensuring all designs prioritize safe production.

  • Act as a role model in complying with and supporting Hudbay’s Health, Safety and

Environmental standards and practices.

  • Report all incidents and accidents, ensure they are investigated, and complete corrective

safety actions on time.

  • Stakeholder Management: Liaises with various stakeholders, including other departments within the

company, government agencies, and community representatives. Develop and maintain constructive
relationships with internal stakeholders (Corporate, Projects, Operations, other.) and external
stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish and adapt to
existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.
