This role is based in the Innovation Accelerator (IA) team, the innovation engine and connective tissue for Design, Data and Data Science innovation strategy within Product Development Data Sciences (PDD). We translate our long-term PDD vision into actionable strategy, shaping and prioritizing innovative cross-functional use cases that span PDD, PD, and Pharma. As both integrators and incubators, we explore, prototype, and help productize solutions to deliver impact in close partnership with internal Roche teams and external collaborators. The Opportunity You contribute to the design and implementation of secure, scalable software architectures for data- and ML-powered products You build user-friendly front-end interfaces using frameworks such as React or Vue You develop and maintain APIs and data pipelines to operationalize models and manage structured/unstructured data You write well-tested, maintainable code that meets quality and compliance standards You collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and data scientists to align technical delivery with user needs You monitor system performance and support troubleshooting in production environments You implement best practices for version control, logging, and configuration management You contribute to shared code libraries and team documentation to support reusability and transparency You participate in agile ceremonies and support sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog prioritization You stay informed on new tools and frameworks that can improve development practices You support deployment of pilots, MVPs, and internal tools in cloud-based environments with IT guidance You engage in continuous learning and peer collaboration to improve team capability Who You Are You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, preferably with data-centric or ML-powered applications; or an advanced degree with 3 years of equivalent work experience You have 3+ years of experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, S3) You have 3+ years of experience building data pipelines (structured and unstructured) using tools like Pandas, Airflow, or DVC You have experience with front-end frameworks (React, Angular) and API development You are proficient with Git, CI/CD tools, and at least one cloud platform (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) You have capacity for independent thinking and ability to make decisions based upon sound principles You exhibit excellent strategic agility including problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and agility that extends beyond technical domain You demonstrate respect for cultural differences when interacting with colleagues in the global workplace You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically in the areas of presentation and writing, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear language Preferred Familiarity with healthcare or regulated environments Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures Experience developing monitoring tools or dashboards for system performance Understanding of privacy and compliance needs in data-heavy environments Interest in the clinical development process and how digital tools can support scientific work Willingness to take initiative and contribute to shared goals in a fast-paced, exploratory setting #PDDT #PDDSSF Relocation benefits are not available for this posting The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $127,800 - $237,300.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
