Description

Work alongside our innovative team based in Auckland, New Zealand! We are seeking talented individuals excited about the opportunity to learn, expand their skillset and support our company in its evolution to a Rust code base.
We welcome applications from individuals located internationally seeking remote engagements, or those looking to relocate to Auckland, New Zealand.
While most of our team works within the New Zealand timezone, international remote applicants are welcome. There’s minimal requirement for crossover hours with the NZ work day, though some flexibility may be needed depending on project needs. This can be discussed and agreed upon later within our recruitment process.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 7+ years experience as a Software Developer, including experience working with enterprise-level complexity.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and at least one modern web application framework, preferably React.
  • Experience in C# and up-to-date .NET frameworks to the extent you can maintain some existing code.
  • Hands-on experience deploying to Azure and/or AWS, including participation in building CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with asynchronous services and/or stream processing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container-based deployments.
  • Some experience with Rust is desirable. You will be moving heavily towards this programming language with us.
  • We are particularly looking for developers with experience or demonstrable interest in any of the following: digital identity, verifiable credentials, open banking, AI agent authorization, edge or device-based software deployment.
  • Experience using techniques such as user stories to express the work to be done as business outcomes.
  • You can produce clear and concise design documents.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate between requirements and technical tasks.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

As a Senior Software Developer in our core delivery team, you’ll help craft interesting, challenging systems that are beyond routine feature work, alongside a team of highly skilled peers who value software craftsmanship and autonomy.
You’ll work in an environment that prioritises technical excellence, curiosity, and forward-thinking design. We are looking for someone who is excited by emerging technologies and wants to make a tangible difference in the way people interact with digital systems.
We offer a culture built on trust, continuous learning, and meaningful impact. You’ll join a team that values integrity over ego, and clarity over complexity.
Propellerhead operates a hybrid working model (work from our office and from your own home). While we prefer our NZ-based team to be located in Auckland, we are also welcoming applications from international developers who would like to work remotely or relocate to Auckland (please specify your plans in your application).
If you are ready to work on real problems with real impact, and help lay the groundwork for what comes next - we would like to hear from you.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Active participation in all aspects of software solution design, including code structure, deployment architecture, DevOps, automated testing and integration of third party systems in line with our technical strategies.
  • Collaborating with client stakeholders and with fellow Propellerhead Developers, Analysts, and Solution Architects, to create a shared understanding of the solution design and roadmap delivery in line with agreed budgets.
  • Constructing software at every layer of the stack, from user interfaces, back end services, data repositories, interoperability, infrastructure-as-code, deployment pipelines, automated testing and system monitoring.
  • Providing second-line support of the systems you build and actively seeking ways to keep your software secure, performant and reliable.
  • Passing on your learning of new technologies or techniques to the broader organisation as part of our knowledge sharing programme.
  • As a core team member you will be responsible for directing the development approach and reviewing components delivered by implementation partners to ensure quality measures such as security, reliability, maintainability, performance and functional fit for purpose.
  • Actively moving forward the evolution of our code base from C# to Rust.
