Your mission

As a (Senior) Backend Software Engineer (m/f/d), you will be a key driver in the further development of our platform architecture in a dynamic, technology-driven environment. You will move confidently between conceptual architecture topics, operational development tasks, and the continuous improvement of our systems – with a clear focus on quality, scalability, and performance.

At the interface between engineering, product, and infrastructure, you will take responsibility for key backend components and actively shape the technological development of our platform. You will develop robust, scalable services, strategically implement modern technologies, and sustainably optimize existing structures.

You will act as an experienced sparring partner within the team: You will question existing solutions, proactively contribute your ideas, and participate in shaping technical decisions – without assuming a traditional leadership role. Your responsibilities include: Backend development and architecture.

• Further development and maintenance of the backend of our web platform based on Python
• Contributing to architectural and design decisions for a scalable and future-proof platform
• Development and optimization of RESTful APIs and central backend services
• Targeted use of AI-supported developer tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot) as an integral part of the daily development workflow.
• Working in an agile Scrum team with close collaboration with neighboring teams

Platform & Infrastructure

• Expansion and optimization of our cloud infrastructure
• Ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our systems
• Collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure teams to continuously improve the platform

Quality and automation

• Conception and implementation of sustainable testing and quality assurance strategies
• Using AI tools to accelerate and improve code reviews, test generation, and documentation
• Expansion of automation in development, deployment and monitoring
• Ensuring code quality and maintainability through modern development standards

Innovation and further development

• Actively contributing to the development of our internal best practices for AI-supported software development – ​​from tool selection and workflows to quality standards.
• Evaluation of new AI tools and their concrete added value for development speed, code quality and developer experience
• Evaluation and integration of new technologies and frameworks
• Active participation in shaping the technical roadmap

Collaboration and communication

• Proactive exchange within the team and clear, constructive feedback in technical discussions
• Close coordination with product managers and other stakeholders
• Taking responsibility for technical issues and their implementation

Your qualification

• Successfully completed studies in computer science or comparable qualification
• Several years of professional experience in backend engineering (ideally 5–10 years)
• Excellent knowledge of Python and common web frameworks (e.g., Flask, FastAPI)
• Experience in developing RESTful APIs and scalable backend systems
• Solid knowledge of relational databases and ORMs (e.g., SQLAlchemy)
• Proven, routine use of AI-supported developer tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot or similar) in daily development work
• Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch is an advantage.
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift is desirable.
• Experience in evaluating and implementing new developer tools in a team context
