Description
About Law Connect You may have seen the LawConnect boat on Sydney harbour.....now it's time to check out who we are! LawConnect is a member of the ATI group of companies - the leading provider of Legal Practice Management Solutions across Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and New Zealand. We support more than 70,000 lawyers and their staff in small and medium-sized law firms. How we build At LawConnect, we are intentionally building an AI-first engineering organisation. We believe modern engineers should spend their time solving meaningful problems, not fighting boilerplate or repetitive work. We actively embrace AI-assisted development workflows - from design and prototyping, to implementation, testing, refactoring, and documentation - to help our engineers move faster, think deeper, and focus on high-leverage decisions. Our goal is not to replace engineering judgment, but to amplify it. We want our engineers to operate as builders and owners: people who deeply understand the product, the users, and the system end-to-end, and who feel real ownership over outcomes in production. In practice, this means: Engineers are trusted to shape solutions, not just implement requirements AI is used as a force multiplier for productivity, experimentation, and learning Strong emphasis on first-principles thinking, system design, and long-term impact Clear ownership of services and features from idea → production → evolution A culture that values pragmatic execution, fast iteration, and continuous improvement What you’ll do We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This is a role for a first-principles thinker who is passionate about building elegant, secure, and scalable software. You will be working on the core platform that powers our AI-driven products, solving unique challenges at the intersection of systems engineering, data, and machine learning. While your initial focus will be on enhancing our core platform (Next.js, PostgreSQL), we are hiring for the future. As we continue our rapid growth, you will be a key architect of our technical evolution, guiding decisions on everything from our service architecture to our data storage paradigms and security posture. To make this happen: Build and Own the Core Product: Take a leading role in designing and building critical features on our core platform. Architect for Scale and Data Flexibility: Lead deep technical design discussions, applying your knowledge of scalable systems and different data modelling paradigms. Uphold Engineering Excellence: Set a high bar for software quality and craftsmanship. Solve Hard Problems at the Intersection of AI and Systems: Collaborate closely with product and AI teams to build the robust, scalable backend systems required to power intelligent user experiences. Mentor and Elevate: Act as a technical leader and mentor, sharing your knowledge and helping to grow the skills of the entire engineering team. What you'll bring: 5+ years of professional experience in full stack web development using TypeScript. Strong expertise in generative AI and its applications. You're excited to design and build the systems, pipelines, and integrations required to ship intelligent, AI-enhanced features. Strong systems and infrastructure fundamentals. You have a solid grasp of distributed computing systems, networking basics (HTTP, DNS, load balancing), cloud-native architectures and cyber security. Strong expertise in data modeling and databases. You're strong in relational databases and their performance tuning, and you're familiar with NoSQL paradigms like DynamoDB or MongoDB. Even better if you have; Distributed Systems Design: Hands-on experience designing or operating microservices or service-oriented architectures. Infrastructure and DevOps: Deep experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.) and cloud architecture, including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Architectural Migrations: Experience having been part of a team that evolved a monolithic application. You are the type of person who embodies these traits Deep curiosity and intrinsic drive. You actively seek to understand how things work, stay ahead of emerging technologies, and continuously elevate your craft without being prompted. High ownership with a builder's mindset. You operate proactively, navigate ambiguity with confidence, iterate quickly, and make pragmatic trade-offs between engineering excellence and business needs in a fast-growing, startup-style environment Law Connect is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application. Why join Law Connect? Your work matters. Helping lawyers help people sits at the heart of everything we do. We solve real world problems that improve and support local, everyday law firms. So they can do their best work for the people in the communities they serve. Make an impact. You won’t be another ‘cog in the wheel’ here. We give full trust and autonomy for you to be heard, to work on big & complex projects – and to make a real difference. Work with a group of authentic, passionate people who love what they do. Flexible and hybrid working. We'd like to find this person in Sydney, but we want you to work in a way that suits you and we're open to flexible arrangements that support you. Grow your career with us. Our founder Christian Beck has been building legal tech businesses for over 30 years. There are opportunities galore to expand your career based on where your interests lie. We're not afraid to pivot based on market conditions - you will always have the opportunity to stay ahead of the curve and do your best work here. Have fun with us. Celebrations. Socials. Sports teams. Access to sailing and yacht events. We value your well-being - enjoy an additional paid wellbeing day every year, free gym membership, corporate dental plan and weekly massages in the office. We'll throw in a catered lunch and breakfast every week too. Oh and an on-site barista. Access to LEAP Home - a program unique to LEAP to support you in buying your primary residence.
