Senior Software Engineer–Embedded Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer–Embedded to support our Defense Mission Computing Software Team, part of the Enterprise Software Products and Capabilities (ESPC) organization located in Hazelwood, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Architect to own multicore embedded software architecture, evaluation, and optimization across real-time and mixed-criticality systems. This role prioritizes deep expertise in multicore/RTOS partitioning and virtualization while expecting practical familiarity (not necessarily deep day‑one mastery) with avionics data-loading (ARINC 615) and Cross Domain Solution (CDS) concepts. The right candidate will drive architecture decisions, lead performance and reliability evaluations, and mentor engineering teams - with support from specialists or contractors for highly specialized certification/CDS tasks as needed. Position Responsibilities: Lead architecture and partitioning design for multicore embedded systems using Wind River Helix Virtualization Platform (HVP) or equivalent type‑1 partitioned hypervisors (AMP/BMP) Define and validate partition scheduling, resource allocation, and isolation strategies to meet real‑time and mixed‑criticality requirements Lead performance evaluations, profiling, and mitigation of shared resource contention (cache, memory bandwidth, I/O); define WCET/WCRT approaches and verification steps appropriate for the program Architect hybrid systems combining safety‑certifiable RTOS partitions and containerized Linux applications; recommend practical containerization strategies for embedded contexts Implement and automate evaluation workflows, CI pipelines, and test harnesses (Python, Bash, CI tooling) for continuous performance regression and reproducibility Produce architecture documentation, design rationale, test plans, benchmarks, and presentations for stakeholders; mentor and guide engineering teams on multicore best practices Integrate with avionics, security, and certification leads; oversee ARINC 615 data‑loading workflows and CDS integrations via coordination with domain specialists or contractors Recommend tooling, lab setups, and vendor selections to support profiling, HIL testing, and certification evidence collection Stay current with emerging technologies in multicore processing, real-time systems, Wind River HVP, and container orchestration Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 9+ years of experience in software architecture and design of embedded software systems 9+ years of experience in VMWare Virtualization 9+ years of experience developing software using Docker or Kubernetes for container based applications 3+ years of experience leading technical projects with multiple real-time operating systems (RTOS), Linux kernels and/or bare metal applications Experience with software certification processes and standards, such as DO-178C or similar, and experience supporting internal software certification activities Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science Experience with mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams of junior and peer engineers Knowledge of Cross Domain Solution (CDS) concepts and secure data mediation patterns; full CDS accreditation experience is not required on day one but candidate must be able to lead integration efforts with security architects and external CDS providers Familiarity with ARINC 615 data‑loading concepts and practical experience integrating data‑load workflows is highly desirable; if not deep, candidate must show the ability to adapt and coordinate with ARINC specialists Travel: Less than 10% Drug Free Workplace: Boeing is a Drug Free Workplace (DFW) where post offer applicants and employees are subject to testing for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP, and alcohol when criteria is met as outlined in our policies.
