Description

📍 Location: Scotland – flexible remote working💰 Salary: Up to £75,000🛠️ Tech Stack: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Cloud

This is a great opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team building and evolving its own technology platform, with a real opportunity to influence architectural decisions and take ownership of core technical delivery.

The business owns and manages its own infrastructure and is continuing to build this out, giving engineers the chance to work across software development, architecture and infrastructure rather than focusing purely on application code.

You'll be involved in developing platforms from the ground up, evolving the existing architecture towards a more scalable microservices-based approach, and helping establish the engineering practices and infrastructure needed to support future growth.

  • What you'll be doingDesigning, developing and maintaining applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Building and evolving microservices-based platforms and APIs.
  • Contributing to architectural decisions as the platform continues to develop.
  • Working with API gateways and service integrations to support business applications.
  • Getting hands-on with infrastructure, cloud services and platform development.
  • Building and improving CI/CD pipelines and software delivery processes.
  • Taking ownership of core technical delivery, from design through to deployment.
  • Working closely with the wider engineering team to introduce new technologies and improve engineering standards.

  • What we're looking forStrong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience designing and developing microservices and APIs.
  • An understanding of modern software architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Azure or another cloud platform such as AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and deployment processes.
  • An interest in infrastructure, platform engineering and building systems from the ground up.
  • Someone comfortable working in a smaller team, taking ownership and helping shape technical direction.

Why consider the role?

This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering function where you can have a genuine impact on the technology being built.

You'll have the freedom to work with modern technologies, influence architectural decisions and get involved in both application development and the underlying infrastructure. Rather than inheriting a fully established environment, you'll help shape how the platform and engineering practices evolve.

The role offers flexible remote working for Scotland-based candidates, with occasional travel required within approximately 1.5–2 hours of the Central Belt.
