Job Description About the role You will help define, design and deliver the technical foundations of Flex Hiring, working on complex challenges that directly impact hirers and candidates. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work closely with product, design and cross-functional engineering partners to turn ambiguous problems into clear technical direction, high-quality specifications and scalable solutions. You will lead technical design for new product and platform capabilities, translating complex needs into maintainable solution designs while using AI-assisted development practices effectively. Working within a multi-disciplinary team in a discovery-led environment, you will guide engineering quality through strong design reviews, partner with stakeholders to balance speed and long-term maintainability, and mentor other engineers to raise the bar on engineering practices. Responsibilities Lead technical design and specification of new product and platform capabilities for Flex Hiring in a greenfield environment. Translate complex product and operational needs into scalable, secure and maintainable solution designs with clear documentation. Use AI-assisted development practices effectively, including reviewing, refining and validating AI-generated outputs. Build, evolve and document services, APIs and integrations that are reliable, observable and operationally ready. Guide engineering quality through design reviews, technical documentation and thoughtful trade-off analysis. Partner closely with product managers, designers and engineers to balance speed, quality and long-term maintainability. Improve platform health, resilience, observability and operational readiness. Support delivery and production operations as required, including troubleshooting and incident response. Mentor other engineers through knowledge sharing, feedback and raising the bar on engineering practices. Contribute to continuous improvement in the team's ways of working, engineering discipline and technical decision making. Qualifications Essential Skills and experience Strong software engineering capability across more than one modern programming language and technology stack. Demonstrated ability to design and evolve scalable systems, APIs and architecture for product or platform environments. Strong proficiency in system design, technical discovery and writing clear engineering specifications. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguity and create clarity in greenfield environments. Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly, including reviewing and validating AI-generated outputs. Demonstrated experience building secure, well-tested, maintainable software. Experience with PHP frameworks (Laravel/Lumen), cloud-first development, CI/CD practices, and mentoring engineers highly regarded.
