Description
Mission TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies. We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack. To deliver on this vision, TAR manufactures, deploys and operates off-grid energy assets with a renewable backbone. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction. Leave your mark by powering the future of civilisation-scale energy infrastructure. We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply! Company We are a team of seasoned operators run by founders who previously scaled a company to over 80 people and $350M in annual sales. We know how to operate and we move fast. We are working directly with one of the largest compute providers to make our vision come true and plan to deploy 5GWs by 2028. TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure. We operate on… High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed. Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We always push ourselves to go faster. First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption. Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. We put in long hours and hard work to solve this. About the role TAR is building a physics-based modeling platform that simulates an entire off-grid power campus before a single panel hits the ground: terrain, irradiance, weather, soil, wind loading, generation, storage dispatch, and IT load, all in one loop. As a Senior Software Engineer on the simulation team, you own large parts of that platform and the architecture behind it. Your models decide where racks go, how large the battery is, how the plant rides through a cloud transient or a load step, and whether a site clears P50/P90 before we commit capital. You work directly with electrical, mechanical, and robotics engineers, turning their domain physics into fast, composable, well-tested code. This is a mid to senior level role: we hire senior engineers across a range of experience and scope ownership and title to the person. Responsibilities Build and own the physics-based site modeling platform: a high-fidelity digital twin capturing terrain, irradiance, weather, soil, wind, and civil constraints to roughly 90% of as-built reality. Develop generation and storage models covering PV production, BESS state of charge and degradation, dispatch, and multi-year capacity prediction. Build a full simulation suite for planning large, mixed deployments of solar, storage, and gas generation against continuous high-density IT load. Implement weather modeling and simulation (irradiance, temperature, wind, soiling) and propagate uncertainty into P50/P90 energy and reliability outputs. Own automated layout and siting tools: rack placement, collection topology, and constructability on real terrain. Ship offline-capable, in-field deployment software that operators can run at remote West Texas sites with no connectivity. Partner with the robotics team on simulation, control, and sensor-fusion algorithms for automated deployment machines. Validate models against field data and tighten the sim-to-real loop alongside electrical and mechanical engineers. Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience Production software experience, ideally at a company where the software runs on or models real hardware. Strong simulation and physics background: numerical methods, modeling of physical systems, and uncertainty quantification. Fluency in a modern scientific or systems language (Python plus C++, Rust, or Go, or similar) with the discipline to keep simulation code fast, tested, and maintainable. Comfort reasoning from first principles in unfamiliar physical domains (power, weather, structural, soil) and collaborating closely with domain engineers. High ownership and a bias for speed and rapid iteration, with the ability to own a platform end-to-end. Nice to have Experience at a hardware-adjacent company such as Anduril, Bedrock Robotics, Skydio, Zipline, Saildrone, Tesla, SpaceX, Applied Intuition, or Physical Intelligence. Background in energy systems modeling, power-flow or grid simulation, or weather and climate modeling. Experience building digital twins, GIS and terrain tooling, or large-scale layout and optimization systems. Hardware-in-the-loop or sim-to-real validation experience. Experience shipping offline-first or edge software for field use. Salary and Benefits Total compensation: $380-650K/year (higher for the most senior or lead profiles) Base salary: $180-250K Equity: $200-400K/year at TAR’s most recent valuation Up to $15K Relocation bonus Unlimited PTO Health, Dental, Vision insurance $1K monthly stipend for meals
