BACKGROUND http://www.layerzero.com/Corporate RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for new product development projects and the processes that bring them to fruition. A Senior Software Engineer takes ownership of the full software life cycle from concept capture through end-of-life deprecation. Planning and process monitoring throughout the software life cycle are integral to the position’s responsibilities, as are specification, coding, testing and QA/QC of product. In addition to product development, a successful Senior Software Engineer acts as a role model and mentor for junior-level engineers, helping in guiding both their day-to- day contributions and their professional growth. Embedded real-time software systems, communications, embedded databases, and human interfaces are all aspects of LayerZero’s core competency in software engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to this broad range of software engineering disciplines. Excellence in customer communication is paramount to success in this role. PRIMARY DUTIES: This position embodies the following primary duties: • Work with customers, both within LayerZero and end users, to define and capture requirements. • Use state of the art software techniques to design applications for new products. • Take ownership of and maintain existing software subsystems. • Directly contribute to the addition of new features and bug fixes to new and existing systems. • Develop in-depth understanding of complex SoC, DSP, FPGA, and similar components. • Develop testing strategies for complex, configurable applications. • Manage product life-cycle trajectory. • Participate in software code reviews via on-line tools. • Enhance the new product development process. • Mentor junior-level engineers. Requirements EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION: • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Computer Engineering, Master of Science in Computer Science, or Ph.D. in the above disciplines – Highly Desired. • A minimum of 8 years of success in full software lifecycle development from concept capture through end-of-life – Required. • In-depth knowledge of C/C++ programming – Required. • In-depth knowledge of operating systems, Linux, drivers, memory, processes, etc. – Required. • In-depth knowledge of database tools such as MySQL. – Required. • Working knowledge of web interface tools such as PHP, JavaScript, etc. – Required. • Working knowledge of scripting languages, e.g., Python, Bash, etc. – Required. • Practical skill in design and construction of useful, real-world items – Required. • Hands-on experience in embedded real-time software development with embedded Linux or other embedded OS. -- Required. • Success with integrated hardware/software co-design. -- Desired. • Experience with embedded Linux build frameworks such as Yocto or Buildroot – Desired. • Experience with TCP/IP networking and industrial data communication protocols such as MODBUS/TCP, BACnet, and SNMP – Desired. • Expertise with project management and defect management tools – Desired. • Experience with Windows and Linux application development – Desired. WORK LOCATION: • LayerZero Power Systems, Inc., main plant in Aurora, OH. • Occasional need to work at customer site for short periods, for example during system integration and acceptance, or when providing consultancy services.
