The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a motivated and skilled Senior Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be working on the development of a highly automated build system for Open Source projects into hundreds or thousands of container deliverables. You’ll research and bring state of the art Open Source techniques from a variety of Linux distributions and container builders in order to accomplish this.

What you will do

  • Building automation for rebuilding open source projects.
  • Building automation for running tests against open source projects.
  • Building automation for entire open source module ecosystems, such as PyPI or similar.
  • Maintenance and iteration of a Tekton based build system.
  • Participate in a distributed Agile Scrum team.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision as a part of a geographically distributed team
  • Good communication skills in English, ability to work as part of a team
  • 1+ year(s) of professional experience building containers
  • 3+ year(s) of experience contributing to Open Source projects.
  • Deep experience using and operating Linux.
  • Experience with GitHub actions, GitLab pipelines or similar CI/CD systems
  • Experience with building open source projects into containers
  • Experience with the build systems of multiple different Linux distributions.
  • Experience working in distributed teams

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with Kubernetes and Tekton
  • SRE background experience or operating container based systems.
  • Experience with AI agentic and automation workflows.
  • Experience in agile development
