Our Mission We're building a category-defining company to increase the speed of innovation in higher education. Woolf's mission is to increase access to world-class higher education and ensure that it is globally recognized and transferable. We help qualified education organizations launch world-class higher education programs that issue academic credits and globally recognized accredited degrees. Woolf University is a collegiate higher education institution modeled on the University of Oxford and Delhi University. Our colleges include some of the fastest growing EdTech companies in the world: UpGrad, Scaler, GoIT, EduBridge, AlmaBetter, and others. Our Team We are a globally distributed, fully remote team with a bias for action. Our team is mission-aligned, high EQ/low ego, and committed to excellence. The Opportunity Woolf is looking for a dynamic, results-driven Senior Software Engineer. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in strengthening the technical foundation of our core product to ensure long-term scalability and resilience. You'll be responsible for accelerating feature development without compromising reliability or performance, reducing engineering bottlenecks, and elevating our code quality standards. What You’ll Do: Architect, design, and implement scalable, reliable backend and frontend systems that support key product initiatives. Collaborate closely with product and design teams to translate user needs into robust, maintainable technical solutions. Take end-to-end ownership of major technical components, from initial design through deployment and ongoing optimization. Lead architectural discussions, making informed trade-offs to balance scalability, maintainability, and delivery speed. Champion code quality by writing clean, well-tested code and establishing best practices for testing, CI/CD, and observability. Conduct thoughtful peer reviews and actively mentor junior and mid-level engineers to elevate team performance. Contribute to long-term technical planning, helping shape the roadmap for product architecture and infrastructure. What You Bring: 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in a product-startup environment. Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, or Java. Solid understanding of system design fundamentals, including databases (both SQL and NoSQL), distributed systems, and service architectures (REST/gRPC). Experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP), and observability tooling (e.g., logging, metrics, tracing). Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work independently and drive projects forward with minimal oversight. Clear and effective communicator, able to collaborate across disciplines and share ideas constructively. Passion for mentoring and supporting peers through feedback and knowledge sharing. Product-focused mentality: you care about the end-user experience as much as writing great code. What We Offer: Contract Structure & Compensation Contract Type: Independent Contractor (Global) Please note: contractors are responsible for their own taxes and benefits in compliance with their local regulations. Why Woolf? Global Impact: Work with education leaders worldwide to shape the future of learning. Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere with a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
