The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) seeks a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join the Boeing Research and Technology software leadership in Huntsville, AL, Hazelwood, MO, Berkeley, MO or Huntington Beach, CA.
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a highly skilled distributed software team in the development of software for world-class, next-generation systems and technologies. The selected candidate will collaborate with the AI/ML, Airspace Operational Efficiency, Autonomy, and our Digital Transformation organization to develop concepts, requirements, architecture, design, and development of a future system. The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in leading, developing, and inspiring a talented, distributed team. People development is a core component of this role - the candidate will be accountable for team growth, fostering employee growth, and providing development opportunities. They will also be responsible for implementing and enforcing software standard practices in line with the software enterprise organization. The candidate will also be tasked with developing and implementing integrated tech plans, policies and procedures, with strong operational skills being a valuable asset.

You will collaborate with other world-class scientists, researchers, and engineers innovating on a range of technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Advanced Training and simulation, Production Analytics, Autonomy, Electro-Optical/Infrared Sensing, Cybersecurity, Disruptive Computing and networks, High-Fidelity Digital Twin and virtualization, and much more.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse software team performing engineering and technical activities for AI/ML, Airspace Operational Efficiency, Autonomy, and Digital Transformation
  • Proactively manage software staffing needs; create a healthy talent and skill pipeline to meet project resource timelines
  • Talent management, skill and career development of ~20 software engineers; tracking and coordination of employee development plans
  • Provide SW employees career coaching, technical mentoring and training
  • Assist the software engineering organization with implementing best practices and lessons learned on projects
  • Provide execution oversight of software development efforts for designated projects/programs/initiatives to ensure technical integrity and engineering excellence
  • Work and collaborate with other technology domain leaders to build value, innovation, and to optimize resources.
  • Responsible for the technical integrity of software developed on projects and programs
