POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

APT Research is hiring a Senior Software Safety Engineer to support the Army’s Ground Vehicle Service Center (GVSC) remotely with occasional required travel. The work involves performing independent system and software safety analysis of multiple ground vehicle platforms being developed, tested, and maintained at the Detroit Arsenal in Michigan.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting safety requirements analysis to flow-down Safety requirements and safety attributes to software/hardware products under development
  • Conducting software code analyses
  • Participating in the Software Safety Verification process to ensure Safety Significant requirements are adequately tested
  • Reviewing software design descriptions and development-related documents
  • Supporting monthly Sprint planning reviews, weekly Integrated Product Team meetings, and participating in Software Configuration Control Board (SCCB) meetings
  • Producing and coordinating documentation needed to develop system safety cases, and provide safety inputs for materiel release of multiple missile and launcher systems
  • Producing and compiling documentation for reviews by the Software Systems Safety Review Panels (SSSTRP), Fuze Boards, Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Boards (WSESRB), and other government review boards.
  • Reviewing and providing recommendations on safety engineering program plans as well as establishing safety test requirements, test plans, and test reporting criteria
  • Developing and reviewing Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and/or Failure Mode, Effects & Critically Analysis (FMECA)

Required Experience/Education:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • ABET accredited BS degree in an Engineering discipline or safety related field
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant Safety experience
  • Prior experience working with Army commands (TACOM, ATEC, PEOs)
  • Experience in Software safety
  • Knowledge of software development standards, safety principles, regulations, and practices including experience carrying out hazard control techniques as well as conducting risk analysis on DOD aviation systems
  • Detailed working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, ISO26262, JSSSEH, Implementation Guide, and IG Appendix A LOR table
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of Air and Ground (manned and unmanned) systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and DOORS
  • Knowledge of Static and Dynamic Code Analysis
  • Knowledge of Structural Coverage Analysis
  • Experience with Model Based Software Development
