ABOUT US

The CSO is here to be the NSW Government’s most trusted legal advisor. Our principal objective is to advise and represent agencies so that they can deliver the NSW Government’s policies, programs and projects in a lawful, effective and efficient manner. We are the sole provider of legal services in all matters regarded as core legal work. We also deliver non-core legal work to government agencies through competition with the private sector.
At the CSO, we believe a diverse and inclusive workforce contributes to the success of our organisation and we are committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects our diverse community.
Learn more about our organisation here.

Responsibilities:

The CSO provides comprehensive legal services to the NSW Government, and Senior Solicitors play a crucial role in service provision. In advocacy, our solicitors represent government agencies in courts and tribunals to ensure their interests are effectively defended. In litigation, solicitors manage complex legal disputes, providing strategic advice and representation to achieve favourable outcomes. In advice work, solicitors offer expert legal opinions and guidance on a wide range of issues, helping government agencies navigate legal complexities and make informed decisions. In transactional work, solicitors negotiate and draft agreements, ensuring that government transactions are legally sound and align with policy objectives.
We have a diverse range of practice groups across the CSO. If you are successful, we will endeavour to match you to a practice group relevant to your experience and interest. For more information on our areas of expertise click here.
How to apply: For your application to be considered, you must submit your application online and include an updated resume (up to 5 pages) and a cover letter (1 page) outlining your interest, preferred areas/s of practice, and suitability for the role.
The selection process may include a range of assessment techniques to assist hiring managers in determining your suitability for the role. You can request adjustments throughout the recruitment process. If you require any adjustments or alternative formats to participate in the recruitment process, please contact Margaret Ters.
This recruitment will be used to create a talent pool to fill ongoing and temporary full-time and part-time vacancies as they arise over the next 18 months.
We welcome and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, including people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the LGBTQIA+ community, culturally and linguistically diverse people, veterans and other diverse communities.
