Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role will be responsible for:

  • Preparing timely legal and strategic advice on a wide range of complex matters on issues relevant to the VEC’s portfolio including in the areas of statutory interpretation, administrative law and commercial law.
  • Undertaking research and analysis at an advanced professional level on complex and sensitive legal matters.
  • Appearing or instructing counsel in proceedings in courts and tribunals.
  • Supporting the wider functions of the Electoral Integrity team, including working with its Advisors on projects which require legal and strategic input.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Demonstrated experience in directing legal research and developing innovative responses to new and emerging issues.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting problems, identifying, influencing and negotiating solutions, and recognising when change in approach is needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with a wide range of people including clients, lawyers, and other staff within an agency.
