Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Solid Waste Management Engineer to join our growing Eastern Canada waste management team. The right candidate can work locally from our Halifax NS office and AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This is a regular, full-time position.
We are looking for a candidate that has a can-do attitude, is enthusiastic, team-oriented professional, with a strong technical background. The appropriately qualified candidate will have a strong understanding and experience in solid waste management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental etc.)
  • 6 years of experience in a related field.

STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of related experience within solid waste management
  • Proficient technical writing experience for detailed design reports, landfill master plans and operations plans, and regulatory document submissions.
  • Registered Professional Engineer with APENS
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel will likely be required in this position within Canada
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word

Responsibilities:

Below are example responsibilities you can expect when working within the AECOM team to deliver all phases of projects:

  • Perform field investigations, collecting and analyzing field data and laboratory testing results, and detailed technical reporting on the programs.
  • Support the Northern remediation team with both proposal and project execution on various work in the Arctic, (landfills, mine site remediation and site assessment work).
  • Operations
  • Support a variety of clients (i.e., landfill managers, portfolio clients, Federal and Provincial leads/property managers) through site visits, environmental site assessments/investigations and meetings to provide operations advice
  • Design development:
  • Developing technical solutions to complete designs and evaluations of solid waste landfill cells, leachate collection and conveyance systems, landfill master plans, capping and closure projects, stormwater management facilities
  • Develop technical solutions to complete compost facility feasibility, compost facility designs, liner designs, stormwater management facilities
  • Develop regional waste system financial feasibility studies
  • Design of waste transfer stations and material recycle facilities
  • Develop remedial action plans based on site assessment work to provide site remediation solutions
  • Preparing documentation for design projects: technical letters, memorandums, reports, drawings, and detailed design packages
  • Preparation of project specifications, contract documents, construction packages, and construction cost estimates
  • Prepare regulatory submittal documents for landfill and compost facility development.
  • Perform construction supervision, administration, and monitoring, including contract close out and reporting.
  • Supervisory duties:
  • Collaborate with junior and intermediate staff on client, co-worker, sub-contractor and sub-consultant communication and management
  • Provide oversight on multi-disciplinary projects, such as: proposal development and change management; safety and logistics; regulatory and stakeholder management; tracking of cost and schedule; coordination of project deliverables and technical aspects
