Position: Senior Spacecraft Production Engineer – Quantum Space
Location: Rockville, MD
Commitment: Full-time, all-in
Who We’re Looking For
Quantum Space is pioneering the future of space mobility with advanced, long-duration spacecraft platforms. We are seeking a Spacecraft Production Lead to oversee the planning, execution, and leadership of our spacecraft assembly, integration, and test operations.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end build and test processes of our Ranger spacecraft, ensuring that all activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with mission requirements. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers, coordinate with various departments, and drive continuous improvement in our production and integration workflows.
You will also lead the selection and rollout of Quantum’s Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system, establishing the digital foundation for production tracking, inventory management, and work order execution.
Where You’ll Make an Impact

Production and Integration Leadership

  • Develop and manage detailed build and test plans for spacecraft assembly and integration.
  • Lead the execution of spacecraft production activities, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance, to facilitate seamless integration processes.
  • Implement and maintain production workflows, documentation, and tracking systems to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.

MRP System Development

  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and company-wide rollout of Quantum’s first MRP system.
  • Define requirements and workflows for planning, inventory, work order, and production tracking modules.
  • Partner with IT, supply chain, and engineering teams to ensure smooth implementation and user adoption.
  • Own the ongoing configuration, process alignment, and continuous improvement of the MRP platform.

Facility and Resource Management

  • Oversee the spacecraft production facility, ensuring it meets all operational, safety, and cleanliness standards.
  • Manage the allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to support production and integration activities.
  • Collaborate with facilities and operations teams to plan and execute facility upgrades or modifications as needed.

Team Development and Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of technicians and integration specialists.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and excellence within the production and integration team.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to support professional growth and development.

Process Improvement and Quality Assurance

  • Identify opportunities to enhance production efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for spacecraft assembly and integration.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality assurance protocols and participate in audits and inspections as required.

What It Takes

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience/education in spacecraft or aerospace vehicle production, integration, and testing.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a manufacturing or integration environment.
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft systems, assembly processes, and integration methodologies.
  • Experience with the evaluation and implementation of MRP or ERP systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and production tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing procedures and requirements for spacecraft.
  • Prior experience in a startup or rapid development environment.
