Job Summary:
Responsible for driving food safety initiatives, regulatory compliance and quality assurance to mitigate food safety risk to Walgreens by interacting with cross functional teams throughout Walgreens Enterprise. Develop and maintain food safety procedures, policies and training components. Serves as a point of contact to technical inquiries. Responsibilities include review of vendor, store, and DC audits to validate and ensure Walgreen’s Food Safety requirements are met. Reports to the Senior Food Safety Manager within the Quality and Technical team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Functions as the SME and primary point of contact internally and externally for food safety matters including standards/policy interpretations and resolutions.
  • Develop and maintain food safety programs, standards and policies that are compliant with Federal/State/Local regulations.
  • Lead implementation of all corporate food safety related activities with vendors. Provide timely communication and performance evaluation.
  • Assists with the organization, maintenance, and upkeep of food safety data base including supplier verification documentation, approval/rejections and other reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining brand integrity through focus on food safety, quality and risk management in line with Walgreens expectations and standards
  • Perform analysis and prepare reporting to evaluate food safety compliance and KPI performance
  • Follow-up promptly and thoroughly on food safety incidences. Effectively communicate outcome of potential root cause and resolution.
  • Provide food safety training and coaching to internal partners.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree and at least 1 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance in Retail and/or Supply Chain OR High School/ GED and at least 4 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance in Retail and/or Supply Chain or At least 3 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance in Retail and/or Supply Chain.
  • Technical knowledge and experience of food safety regulations, laws and best practices including FDA, USDA and other State/Local agencies.
  • Prior experience of conducting food safety audit/inspections
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • At least 2 years’ work experience working with product data or product descriptions in retail, manufacturing, or technical environment.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 5% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, such as Biology or Chemistry.
  • Certification Professional Food Safety (CP-FS), Registered Environmental Health Specialist (RS) Credential and/or PCQI certified.
  • Experience in Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.
  • HACCP certified
  • Experience in food manufacturing and/or food regulatory field
  • Third party audit standard knowledge
  • Up to date on current and emerging food safety news, risks and advancements including but not limited to FSMA and FDA Food Code
  • Strong history of effectively communicating messages, at times complex, to various stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office tools and programs.
