SUMMARY’

As a Senior SQL Developer – EHR Conversions, you will be the technical lead driving Focus Solutions’ most complex and high-impact data conversion projects. You’ll be responsible for architecting, executing, and optimizing data migrations that enable healthcare organizations to transition between EHR systems seamlessly.
This role requires not only deep SQL expertise, but also leadership in designing repeatable frameworks, mentoring junior developers, and partnering with clients to ensure data integrity, compliance, and accuracy. You will serve as a subject matter expert on EHR conversion best practices and play a critical role in scaling our professional services delivery model.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND TOOLS

  • Advanced SQL Server expertise, including performance tuning, complex joins, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Experience with HL7, FHIR, CCD, X12, and other healthcare data exchange standards.
  • Experience with data conversion frameworks and ETL tools.
  • Git-based source control (Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Azure Data Studio and/or Visual Studio Code.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel for data validation and transformation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of hands-on SQL development experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior or lead role.
  • Proven, hands-on experience leading EHR/EMR data conversions. Must have successfully managed full lifecycle migrations involving systems such as Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, or similar.
  • Deep knowledge of HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CCD, and other interoperability standards in healthcare environments.
  • Expertise in healthcare data standards, regulatory compliance (HIPAA, PHI handling), and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to coach junior developers and lead teams.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-facing environment with multiple concurrent projects.
  • Bonus points for:
  • Experience with Azure SQL, cloud-based migrations, or hybrid architectures.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python for automation.
  • Experience working in managed service or consulting environments.
  • Microsoft SQL certifications or healthcare IT certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Lead complex EHR conversion projects from planning through implementation, ensuring successful, timely, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Translate client data mapping and requirements into advanced SQL logic and conversion frameworks.
  • Design, develop, and optimize SQL scripts, stored procedures, and ETL processes for large-scale healthcare datasets.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients during data conversion efforts, providing guidance and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
  • Mentor junior SQL developers, providing code reviews, training, and ongoing knowledge-sharing.
  • Partner cross-functionally with project managers, analysts, and other technical staff to align conversion deliverables with client expectations.
  • Document and refine conversion processes to build scalable, repeatable methodologies across projects.
  • Proactively identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate issues as needed.
