In this role, the successful candidate will provide direct support to the Operations Controller, Vaughan Accounting Center in centralizing, standardizing and streamlining the close process for the Ontario region. The senior staff accountant will assume a leadership role for a small team of accountants and will play an integral role in ensuring an accurate and efficient close process and clean balance sheet reconciliations. The role will entail working closely with key site level personnel. The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, possess strong analytical skills, have a desire to continuously look for ways to improve processes and be able to build rapport with key stakeholders.

QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENTS

• 5 years of relevant accounting experience in a fast-paced environment
• Candidates working towards a CPA designation are preferred but not required
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to work within tight close deadlines and excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment
• Superior communication and teamwork skills
• Experience with ERP system (Cognos/TM1) & accounting system (Workday) is an asset
• A background in the waste industry is an asset

• Preparation and/or approval of journal entries
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Proactively look for opportunities to streamline and improve processes to gain efficiency
• Ensure transactions adhere to internal controls and accounting procedures
• Support preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting statements
• Compile and upload key statistical metrics in accordance with close deadlines
• Lead and support delivery of assigned projects
• Assist with pulling data to satisfy various external auditor requests
