Description Hammond Lumber Company, voted 2025's Best Places to Work in Maine, is seeking a Full-Time Senior Staff Accountant for our Ellsworth, Maine location. A Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing complex accounting functions, ensuring financial accuracy, providing critical financial reporting to support business decisions, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting & General Ledger Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis. Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. Maintain and analyze the general ledger to ensure timely and accurate financial data. Accounting Operations Oversee accounting processes and ensure compliance with corporate policies. Support payroll accounting, fixed asset accounting, and expense reporting. Compliance & Controls Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies. Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to inquiries. Assist in maintaining and improving internal controls to mitigate risk. Financial Analysis & Support Analyze financial results and provide insights to management on trends, variances, and performance metrics. Support forecasting processes with accurate data and analysis. Collaborate with leadership on special projects, process improvements, and system implementations. Key Competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
