Description

Senior Staff Accountant
The Company
Quetico is dedicated to providing complete inventory management and supply to its customers while maintaining the highest standard of service found in our industry. What truly sets us apart is that we are the industry leader in our field. With decades of experience and a relentless commitment to efficiency, we ensure that some of the world’s most recognizable brands—Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, RVCA, Elle, and more—are seamlessly distributed to top retailers, such as Costco, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx.
Position Overview
The Senior Staff Accountant will bridge the gap between a traditional staff accountant role and the responsibilities of an assistant controller. This is a growth-track position with an expected 2–3 year progression to Assistant Controller and potential 5-year progression to Controller. The role is ideal for someone with a few solid years of accounting experience who is ambitious, curious, and eager to take on increasing responsibility.
Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting and Month-End Close

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations with minimal supervision.
  • Lead assigned portions of the month-end close and assist with consolidated reporting.
  • Participate in variance analysis and prepare schedules for management review.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with budget-to-actual reporting, cash flow analysis, and ad hoc financial analysis.
  • Provide data and insight into management decision-making.

Inventory and Cost Accounting

  • Oversee more complex aspects of inventory reconciliation, cost tracking, and COGS analysis.
  • Partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting of WIP and samples.

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Document and strengthen internal controls for AP, AR, inventory, payroll accounting, and tax compliance.
  • Support internal and external audit preparation, responding to requests independently.

ERP Systems and Process Improvement

  • Serve as a key user for Full Circle and QuickBooks, identifying automation and efficiency opportunities.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in accounting processes and reporting workflows.

Leadership and Growth Path

  • Mentor junior accounting staff, providing training and reviewing work.
  • Proactively take on projects that prepare you for Assistant Controller responsibilities, including treasury support, policy development, and system optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a distribution, wholesale, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills (vlookup, pivot tables, sumif, nested formulas); experience with Full Circle or similar ERP preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.
  • A mindset for growth, continuous improvement, and taking on new challenges.

Why This Role is Different This is not a static senior staff accountant role. It is intentionally designed for someone who wants to move into management and can assume greater responsibility quickly. Success in this role will be measured not just by accuracy and timeliness, but also by demonstrated initiative, leadership potential, and readiness to step into the Assistant Controller role.
