Job Description – Senior Staff Accountant
Reports to: Assistant Controller, Real Estate Accounting
Job Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for basic accounting functions and financial reporting with emphasis on account analysis, budgets, audit work papers, account reconciliation and working as a team with property management and risk departments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Business, Accounting, Finance or any other related degree.
• Minimum five years of full cycle accounting month end close experience preferably in property management, real estate industries, or residential management.
• Strong accounting, organizational, communication and analytical skills will be critical to the success in this position.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office/360, proficient in EXCEL and relevant accounting software a must; YARDI experience a plus.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

• Full understanding of financial accounting cycle in order to process multiple property financial statements on a monthly basis.
• Possess strong organizational, time management and analytical skills
• Must have strong work ethics, be detail oriented and reliable.
• Possess a positive attitude and follow through to completion on all tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work Hours: 40 hours per week, as scheduled; schedule may change as required. Hours over and above normal office hours may occur, including evenings, holidays and some weekends.

The purpose of this job description is to communicate the duties and responsibilities associated with the position of Senior Staff Accountant. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare all aspects of the financial statement package, including but not limited to journal entries, general ledger analysis and review, distribution of reports and month end closing in a timely manner.
• Read, understand, and adhere to partnership agreements, property management agreements, and any loan documents related to the assigned properties.
• Responsible for daily cash management, including review of payables/receivables, vendor payments, expense reimbursements, petty cash, and cash deposits. Prepare the monthly bank reconciliations and initiate bank wires and account transfers.
• Interact with Regional Managers and Community Managers in obtaining information needed to prepare accurate financial statements and analysis of actual/budget variances.
• Maintain open and regular communication with the 3rd party owners, initiate monthly distribution to 3rd party owners based upon the requirements set forth in the management agreement and perform detailed reviews of financial reports to ensure compliance with client policies.
• Ensure timely payments of all debt, real estate taxes, insurance and calculate distributions as needed.
• Preparation of annual budget and year end audit work papers.
• Assist in preparation of Fund/Partnership reporting documents and calculations, HUD reporting requirements and analysis, and other special projects as assigned by the Manager.
• Set-up acquisition and disposition of properties in accordance with the purchase and sale agreement with guidance from a Controller.
