Description

The candidate would be responsible for project managing new work certification and performance testing projects for the wire and cable business. Heavy customer interaction is involved and would include email communications, teams calls, as well as phone calls. Strong communication and collaboration skills are critical. Customer interactions may be face to face at the Melville site, as well as at customer facilities, as needed. Strong organizational skills are required with the candidate expected to work independently, self- manage and prioritize projects based on the estimated completion dates provided to our customers. The candidate would also support our sales function in the preparation of technical quotes to our customers. The candidate may also be called upon to support the lab function with training of newly hired technicians. The candidate may also be asked to participate in special developmental projects, lean operational efficiency projects and finally principal engineer related technical projects to continue their UL and technical development journey. Travel is estimated to be between 50 and 75% of time and some of this travel may include visits to customers manufacturing facilities to perform factory with test services.

  • Enhance and advance a zero-incident safety culture and behavior.
  • Manage project schedules to ensure all the projects are properly processed including quotation, execution, reporting and invoicing.
  • Evaluate and develop technical solutions and pricing per the customer’s request for proposal (RFP).
  • Manage subcontractor interactions – quoting, materials, equipment / rentals, personnel, etc. to meet job and project requirements.
  • As required, visit subcontractor labs for witness testing, auditing and product inspection.
  • As required, perform product testing and measurements at UL’s laboratories.
  • As part of project execution, perform inventories of test equipment and consumables, review personnel availability, etc. to meet project requirements.
  • As required, witness product testing and measurements at customer’s site.
  • Perform data analysis on diagnostic testing performed by the UL field crews or obtained from the clients.
  • Prepare technical reports and present their results with recommended actions on the tested electrical assets to customers.
  • Perform data analysis on data obtained from product testing. Prepare technical reports and present their results to customers.
  • Maintain daily work records with accuracy and integrity.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations to management regarding MV business development opportunities, program expansion and potential capital expenditures.
  • Develop close working relationships with customers while increasing customer satisfaction.
  • As required, attend Industry conferences to represent UL and interact with Utilities, Specifiers and MV Cable / Equipment suppliers to Utilities.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Willing to travel over 75% to customer’s facilities and job site, including global travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a technical related discipline is required.
  • Experiences in related industrial and international standards in MV/HV cable systems, including but not limited to ICEA/AEIC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE standards.
  • Experiences in areas such as Power Utilities, asset management for MV/HV equipment, field-testing technologies for MV/HV apparatus, MV/HV or high-power laboratories, MV/HV cable manufacturers, installers, or operators, or relevant fields.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical asset design, dielectric aging and diagnostics, particularly on MV/HV power cable systems.
  • Knowledge in high voltage testing technologies on electrical assets including VLF, Tan Delta, high voltage withstand test, impulse test, load cycle test, dielectric loss test, partial discharge measurement, etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical power transmission and distribution field operations.
  • Familiarity with high voltage safety requirements and regulations on job sites and in lab. Commitment to safe operations and zero incident workplace.
  • Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all internal and external customers and make formal presentations to people at all levels, both within and outside the company.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software in the MS Office suite.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments concurrently without direct supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record with a willingness to accept extended travel assignments
