YOUR FUTURE TEAM As a geoscientist for the TCEQ’s Office of Water, you will join the Water Availability Division, Groundwater Protection and Assessment Team (GPAT), which is responsible for implementing the interagency Texas Groundwater Protection Committee, providing oversight of groundwater conservation districts, and providing legislative support for activities related to groundwater. Job Description HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING As a Geoscientist III-IV for GPAT, you will: Communicate technical information at public meetings of the Texas Groundwater Protection Committee (TGPC). Provide technical expertise and other support to TGPC. Participate in and chair TGPC subcommittees. Participate in Groundwater Conservation District (GCD) oversight activities. Analyze and interpret groundwater availability models. Evaluate hydrological and geological data associated with public petitions for GCD creation and performance evaluation. Plan, execute, and manage all phases of complex to highly complex work on hydrogeologic reports and other projects. Provide training, mentoring, and senior level geoscience expertise to team/section/division and agency staff. Participate in legislative activities including bill analysis, rule review, and rulemaking. Present technical or regulatory information to governmental agencies, stakeholders, and the public. Participate in policy and team development, such as the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and guidance documents, as well as optimizing work processes. Assist customers regarding the program through verbal communication, correspondence, data reports, presentations, and Public Information Requests. Qualifications KEY QUALIFICATIONS Experience operating and interpreting quantitative hydrogeological models. Experience speaking publicly at conferences, public meetings, and legal proceedings. Experience analyzing, interpreting, and/or implementing statutes, rules, regulations, policies or procedures. Texas Board of Professional Geoscientist (TBPG) license. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Geoscientist III Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus four years of full-time geoscientific experience beyond licensure. OR Nine years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG). A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed. Career Ladder Progression Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist II. Geoscientist IV Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus five years of full-time geological experience beyond licensure. OR Ten years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG). A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.
