Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Strategic Planner to join the the Housing, Building and Land Delivery (HBLD) group of the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
This role is responsible for leading and managing the preparation and review of strategic land use plans, including Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs), Structure Plans, Activity Centre Plans, and Development Plans, across both established and greenfield areas of metropolitan Melbourne. It also contributes to implementation and improvement projects that support the VPA’s strategic goals.
You will play a key role in delivering initiatives under the Capacity Uplift Program and the Streamlining Program. This includes PSP reviews, stakeholder engagement, amendment packages, and projects aimed at reducing PSP timeframes and costs while maintaining alignment with policy and strategic planning objectives.
The role works within a multidisciplinary team at the VPA, collaborating with experts in planning, sustainability, transport, infrastructure, and community services. You will develop planning solutions that reflect a whole-of-government approach and integrate technical and stakeholder input.
Key responsibilities include managing strategic planning projects and multidisciplinary teams, leading stakeholder consultation, preparing briefs and presentations for senior audiences, and overseeing procurement of technical advice. The role also supports the Manager Strategic Planning, contributes to team culture, and may provide guidance to junior staff. Strong communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential to succeed in this position.
