See yourself in our team: This role sits within the Consumer Finance business unit in Retail Banking Services (RBS), which manages CBA’s portfolio of Credit Cards, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) and Personal Loans. Consumer Finance is responsible for delivering sustainable growth, strong risk-adjusted returns and compelling customer experiences across unsecured lending products. Operating in a highly competitive and regulated environment, the business balances innovation, responsible lending and commercial performance at scale. The Strategy team within Consumer Finance plays a critical role in shaping portfolio direction, identifying growth opportunities, assessing market shifts and supporting investment decisions that drive long-term value. Do work that matters: As Senior Strategy Manager, you will lead strategic initiatives that directly influence the performance and evolution of the Consumer Finance portfolio. You will partner closely with Product, Risk, Finance, Marketing and Technology leaders to shape portfolio priorities, optimise performance and define the future direction of credit cards, BNPL and personal loans. This is a commercially anchored strategy role — combining structured problem-solving with a deep understanding of portfolio economics, customer dynamics and regulatory considerations. You will take end-to-end ownership of strategic workstreams, from defining the problem and developing hypotheses, through to building business cases, influencing senior stakeholders and supporting execution. Key responsibilities include: Analyse the consumer lending landscape, identifying medium- to long-term trends across customer behaviour, competition, regulation, technology and macro-economic factors Develop and articulate portfolio strategy and growth priorities across credit cards, BNPL and personal loans Assess new product, pricing, channel and partnership opportunities to drive sustainable growth Partner with Finance and Product teams to evaluate portfolio performance, unit economics, capital efficiency and return on investment Support decisions on portfolio mix, pricing strategy, growth trade-offs and profitability optimisation Lead strategic reviews and deep dives into priority themes (e.g. BNPL evolution, ecosystem partnerships, regulatory impacts, competitive positioning) Prepare high-quality materials for Consumer Finance leadership and contribute to papers for Retail and Executive forums where required Drive cross-functional alignment to support implementation of strategic initiatives Provide leadership and mentoring to junior team members within the strategy function We’re interested in hearing from people who have: Significant experience (typically 6+ years) in corporate strategy, business unit strategy, business development or top/mid-tier management consulting Strong commercial acumen with an understanding of financial services P&L drivers Experience in retail banking, consumer lending or financial services, with exposure to credit cards, BNPL or personal loans highly regarded Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems using structured, hypothesis-led thinking Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving alignment across cross-functional teams Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior strategy professionals This is an opportunity to sit at the centre of one of CBA’s most strategically important portfolios.
