Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer for employment in the Louisiana or Texas offices. This full-time employment position will support our Heavy Civil structural practice, Water Business Line Division. AECOM designs some of the most complex and interesting hydraulic structures in the area, such as flood protection structures, flood gates, pump stations, navigation locks, intake structures, water diversion projects, port facilities, and industrial buildings, among others. The Senior Structural Engineer will be responsible for performance of engineering analysis and design tasks, coordination and development of engineering plans and specifications, managing a structural design team of engineers and drafters and take responsibility for overseeing multidisciplinary design teams on a number of projects. This position would mostly work on federal projects for clients like, USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, etc.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform engineering analysis and design of structural systems and document with plans, specifications and/or reports.
  • Work with project managers and other discipline team members.
  • Review of concept design reports.
  • Complete deliverables in agreed time and cost.
  • Manage projects for structural-related activities and coordinated services.
  • Manage quality assurance (QA) and the checking of all design work carried out prior to formal issue.
  • Ensure full coordination between the Structural design team and other disciplines including geotechnical, architectural, civil, and MEP engineers.
  • Manage and oversee engineers, technicians and CAD/BIM staff as necessary to complete work.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy of the work of the team.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from an ABET-accredited college or university and 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer License or ability and willingness to obtain licensure within 6 months in the state of Louisiana or Texas.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in projects related to hydraulic structures, flood protection, levees, ports, and building projects.
  • Master or PhD in Civil Engineering Degree (Structural emphasis) from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • knowledge of design codes, building envelopes, hazard provisions and mitigation techniques including ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC, ASCE 7, AASHTO, IBC, API, PCI, and USACE EMs.
  • Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE or similar industry design software)
  • Experience with advanced analyses such as finite element analysis of structural and mechanical components, nonlinear analysis of concrete and steel and dynamic analysis of structures.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Good communication skills, and able to work well independently at times.
  • Must be able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
  • Confident, with the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
