POSITION OVERVIEW

My client in Phoenix and Tucson is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer for their Industrial, Commercial, and Residential projects. This role involves performing advanced technical engineering tasks, including complex computations, report writing, and project coordination. The position requires leadership qualities such as initiative, resilience, foresight, assertiveness, and confidence. The ideal candidate is proactive and capable of managing both immediate responsibilities and long-term project goals.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four years of professional structural engineering experience.
  • A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by a recognized state board.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematics and statistical analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including interpreting complex data and symbols.
  • Familiarity with engineering software tools including AutoCAD, Revit, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing applications.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional physical activity including standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 10 lbs).
  • Visual acuity for close and distance work, color differentiation, and depth perception.
  • Typical office environment with moderate noise levels.
Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
  • Apply engineering judgment and techniques to plan and execute work.
  • Edit and review structural specifications and construction documents.
  • Interpret and coordinate with architectural and consultant plans.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (e.g., architectural, mechanical, electrical) to ensure cohesive project development.
  • Research and document design alternatives.
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation of construction documents using hand sketches, PDF tools, CAD, or BIM software.
  • Assess existing structures for compliance with applicable codes.
  • Develop familiarity with a wide range of building materials and relevant design standards.
  • Participate in client meetings and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Estimate engineering and drafting efforts for various project types.
  • Lead smaller projects or oversee phases of larger projects.
  • Mentor and support junior engineering staff.
  • Occasionally serve as Project Manager or client liaison on minor projects.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews.
  • Manage routine contract administration tasks.
  • Attend site visits and design meetings as needed.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals and support business development efforts.
