Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Structural Engineer to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of Ottawa office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must meet the below requirement, at a very minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering Six (6) years of experience as or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario in good standing.
  • Holding security clearance or the ability to obtain secret level security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering after receiving the P.Eng., including leadership in design delivery.
  • Experience in IPD (Integrated Project Delivery)
  • Experience in structural design of industrial plants, commercial buildings, government facilities, municipal infrastructures, and transit stations.
  • Proficiency in 3D structural analysis, modeling, and design software including but not limited to ETABS, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, as well as other computer-aided design tools relevant to this role.
  • Proven expertise in applying all major structural design codes and standards, including in-depth knowledge of NBC, OBC, and CSA S16, CSA A23.1, CSA A23.3, CSA S304, CSA O86, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English proficiency essential).
  • Ability to recognize and adhere to established deadlines and schedules is a must.
  • Ability to fit into a fast-paced team environment and/or work independently.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and multi-tasking
Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Independently perform structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Prepare technical specifications and contribute to project documentation.
  • Prepare structural analysis and calculation reports.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and structural assessments to evaluate structure’s conditions and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule expectations with little supervision.
  • Provide technical or operational guidance to less experienced engineers, EIT’s and technicians.
  • Stay updated on industry codes, regulations, and best practices to ensure high-quality design solutions.
