Responsibilities

Are you an experienced care professional ready to step into a leadership role where your skills can make a genuine difference? Do you have a background in mental health, therapeutic support, and behaviour management? If you’re looking for a meaningful challenge, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Cornerstone Children’s Homes is seeking a Senior Residential Care Worker to support a young person with complex needs in a solo residential setting in Reading. This is a role where leadership and hands-on care go hand in hand—helping to create a home that is structured, safe, and emotionally supportive.
About the Role
As a Senior Residential Care Worker, you’ll combine frontline support with leadership responsibilities. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the wellbeing of the young person, while also guiding and supporting the team to uphold high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one, trauma-informed, therapeutic care in a solo residential environment
  • Promote and safeguard the emotional, behavioural, and physical wellbeing of the young person
  • Respond effectively to challenging situations using trained de-escalation and safe intervention techniques
  • Lead and mentor staff, oversee daily operations, and manage rota planning
  • Develop and review personalised care and behaviour support plans
  • Collaborate with external professionals including social workers and therapists
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and record-keeping standards are consistently upheld

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience in complex care, ideally in mental health or therapeutic residential care
  • Confidence in behaviour management, de-escalation, and safe physical interventions
  • Emotional resilience, calmness under pressure, and a compassionate approach to care
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work proactively as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance

Why This Role Matters
This is more than just a senior care role—it’s a chance to lead with purpose and create lasting change. Your leadership will not only support a vulnerable young person through a crucial time in their life, but also shape a high-performing, child-centred care team that shares your commitment to trauma-informed practice.
