SENIOR SUPPORT WORKER – CHILDREN’S HOMES (PATHWAY TO DEPUTY MANAGER)

Location: Croydon (On-site)
Wage: £13 - £14 DOE
Hours: 4 days per week (8 am – 8 pm)

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, ensuring their safety, welfare, and personal development at all times.
  • Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of support workers, setting high standards and supporting best practice.
  • Take responsibility for key working, care planning, and risk assessments.
  • Support the management team with rota planning, staff supervision, and incident reporting.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and external professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with safeguarding and regulatory standards.
  • Commit to a minimum of 48 hours per week (four 12-hour shifts), including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required.
  • Engage in ongoing training and development, with a clear pathway to Deputy Manager.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the care sector, ideally within children’s residential care.
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff is highly desirable.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to remain calm and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and progression into management.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
