Downer is seeking a Senior Sustainability & Environment Advisor to play a key role within the Energy & Utilities Sustainability & Environment Function, supporting environmental governance, regulatory compliance and sustainability performance across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, utilities and major project operations. Reporting to the Sustainability & Environment Director, this role focuses on identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, strengthen compliance frameworks and deliver industry-leading sustainability outcomes across Downer’s operations. You will partner closely with operational leaders, project teams and clients to ensure environmental risks are effectively managed while supporting the delivery of sustainable, compliant and high-performing projects. About the Role As the Senior Sustainability & Environment Advisor, you will provide expert environmental advice and guidance to operational teams across projects, assets and maintenance contracts. You will play a critical role in ensuring Downer continues to meet regulatory obligations while identifying opportunities to strengthen sustainability performance and environmental governance across the business. Key responsibilities include: * Providing environmental and sustainability advice across projects, contracts and operational teams * Ensuring compliance with environmental licences, permits, approvals and legislation * Developing and reviewing Environmental Management Plans and supporting documentation for high-risk projects * Leading environmental input into site audits, assurance programs and improvement initiatives * Responding to environmental events, regulatory audits, compliance actions and environmental investigations * Managing environmental licence registers and monitoring compliance obligations * Supporting environmental approvals processes for major infrastructure and utilities projects * Providing environmental risk and opportunity advice during tender and design phases * Supporting operational teams to achieve sustainability outcomes and ISCA ratings * Supporting the ongoing development and improvement of Downer’s Integrated Management System aligned with ISO 14001 About You You are a practical and solutions-focused environmental professional who thrives working closely with operational teams and understands the challenges of delivering sustainability outcomes across complex project environments. You bring strong regulatory knowledge, the ability to influence stakeholders and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will bring: * Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Energy, Environmental Management or similar * 5+ years’ experience in environmental or sustainability roles within infrastructure, utilities, construction or major projects * Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks * Demonstrated experience managing environmental approvals and compliance requirements * Experience supporting environmental risk management on major projects or operational assets * Experience developing environmental management plans and audit programs * Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence operational teams Desirable: * Environmental management system auditing qualifications * Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems * Knowledge of Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) ratings * Experience working across multiple jurisdictions or regulatory environments Why Join Downer?
