REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION AND VERIFICATION

  • Responsible for ensuring design requirements are appropriately documented.
  • Learn, understand and flow down customer and industry requirements, including applicable codes and standards, to ensure overall machine compliance.
  • Prepare/review vendor technical specifications and interface with vendors of process critical third-party equipment, including acceptance testing and buy-off of equipment at vendor site.
  • Using tools such as a Verification Matrix, plan for verification of all design/system requirements.
  • Responsible for requirements verification by evaluating engineering drawings and specifications for conformance to design inputs/requirements, performing analysis (calculations, simulations, etc.) and testing (POP testing, design validation testing, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, etc.).
  • Responsible for planning of Acceptance Testing, including preparation of test plans, ensuring availability of resources, mock-ups, fixtures, test support equipment, etc., and leading test execution with the customer.

EDUCATION

  • A post-secondary degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Design, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, or equivalent.
  • A Licensed Professional Engineer designation in Ontario (P.Eng.) is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Ten years of experience in engineering design, development and qualification of custom machinery, systems or equipment.
  • Five years of experience in nuclear tooling and equipment development and testing, preferably including field support and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of machine design and build, machine controls, structured problem solving, statistical analysis, and precision engineering principles.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to lead or work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.
Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES

  • As a Senior Systems Engineer - Nuclear you are the driving technical force behind problem solving efforts. You will work with the customer, ATS project manager, and ATS design, assembly, and software teams to design the solutions that meet the customer’s requirements. You will get the opportunity to thrive as a technical leader by wearing the 3 hats: 1) understanding the customer’s technology and process and becoming the subject matter expert in the equipment/system, 2) providing project technical clarity by defining system requirements and validating system capability, and 3) being the technical leader on the system from cradle to launch, guiding the design teams, managing technical risk, and driving improvements in quality, cost, and delivery. Your ability to design, create, execute, solve problems and work as a team will drive the team’s success.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for communicating time estimates and resource requirements on tasks to the Department Manager and the Project Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, accepted engineering practices, and ATS standards.
  • Assist in department Continuous Improvement initiatives, including development of standards and procedures.
  • Take engineering responsibility for own work and for others when required as defined by PEO guidelines.
  • Assist in the supervision and mentoring of junior staff within the department.
  • Develop and verify design concepts and labour hours estimates for quote preparation.
  • Provide design support related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization as required.
  • Strictly follow CSA N299/B51/N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the appropriate ATS QA manuals and procedures.
  • Willing to work as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), and work in radioactive environments including nuclear site work.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
