EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical, or Software) or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in systems integration, data acquisition, and architecture design.
  • Strong background in software testing, verification, and validation.
  • Proficiency in SQL database querying and experience with data historians.
  • Hands-on experience with application development (e.g., Visual Studio, C#, VB.net, SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as 21 CFR Part 820 and Part 11.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
  • Experience in validated environments with strong change control discipline is a plus.

At Abbott Diabetes Care’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, we’re expanding our Systems Engineering team, and we’re looking for a forward-thinking Senior Systems Engineer to help us shape the future of smart manufacturing. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in enabling our Factory 4.0 vision. You’ll work alongside a dynamic team of controls engineers, vision specialists, MES architects, and data scientists to design, validate, and deploy cutting-edge systems that power the production of life-changing diabetes sensors. This is your opportunity to work at the intersection of software, automation, and data—driving innovation and ensuring our manufacturing operations are efficient, secure, and future-ready.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a technical expert for manufacturing data and operations systems.
  • Collaborate with OEM vendors to integrate equipment data into Oracle databases.
  • Map data from PLCs, SCADA systems, and line controllers to database schemas.
  • Lead risk assessments and validation activities for data acquisition systems.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize data queries and system performance.
  • Enhance existing software systems for real-time data acquisition and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and validate new software and database solutions.
  • Develop robust backup and recovery systems for both PC and PLC environments.
  • Conduct cybersecurity risk analyses and drive maturity improvements in OT security.
  • Define and manage OS update roadmaps across manufacturing systems.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to continuously improve processes and standards.
