Job Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading the strategic vision for the Sensor Data Processing System (Fusion) at NAV CANADA. The candidate will offer technical leadership and advice to the life cycle management team and will be involved in the planning, organizing, developing, and testing the Fusion system and software.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work in partnership with the management, software architects and governance groups in requirements management, analysis, design, and life cycle support of enhancements to Fusion and related systems.
  • Provide technical leadership, advice and support to life cycle management team, stakeholders, and other business units related to the administration, development, deployment and testing of Fusion and related systems.
  • Create, analyze, review, and manage system requirements.
  • Create, review, management, and execution of test plans, suites, cases related to Fusion.
  • Monitor evolving technologies and make recommendations for adoption.
  • Validate the integration of new sensors into Fusion.
  • Perform registration analysis and establish sensor bias values.
  • Provide accurate and timely response to critical service and project requests.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in electrical, electronic or systems engineering from recognized University or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Eligible for certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years work experience as an engineer in system analysis, requirements, design, development, integration, test/certification, implementation and support of safety or mission critical systems.
  • Experience in radar/sensor data processing systems.
  • Experience in coordinating and supervising technical work activities or leading engineering/technical project teams with emphasis on analysis, detailed design, user experience, coding standards, unit & integration testing, implementation, and configuration control.
  • Experience in engineering project management.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of modern system development life cycle processes, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of surveillance systems computer hardware and software, networking and communication standards and protocols.
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts used to process and fuse radar/sensor plots in surveillance systems.
  • Knowledge of software and systems development, testing, certification, and deployment, in particular: Real-time data acquisition and processing, network communications, file and device I/O, data storage and retrieval, multi-threading, using operating system application interfaces and libraries, modeling/UML, test driven development, automated testing, continuous integration and change / configuration management.
  • Knowledge of industry trends in software and systems technologies.
  • Knowledge of project management, risk control management, quality, and safety management principles.

Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, document, coordinate, and conduct proposals related to requirements, feasibility studies, design concepts, implementation, testing, and life-cycle management of safety critical systems.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems, related to software, systems, and processes, to develop options and to implement recommended course of action.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, domains, and tools quickly.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a team environment both verbally and written using documents, presentations, and diagrams.
  • Ability to set priorities, to adapt to changing priorities, and to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and with stakeholders, to coordinate and lead the day-to-day activities of the development team, mentoring younger members of the team and providing direction to those in need.

Working conditions:

  • Hybrid: This position is based at the Ottawa Technical Systems Centre but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
